Information Technology Specialist
The IT Specialist maintains current information systems, assists in the implementation of new systems, assists end users with long-term and day-to-day needs, and works with all members of the IT Department to ensure security, reliability and general IT requirements are met. This position reports to the IT Manager. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Hardware • Install new desktop workstations (Macintosh and PC). • Determine the needs and systems requirements of end users. Diagnose and replace hardware and system components. • Replace components or computer as failure occurs. Software • Assist in setting software standards. • Research software availability including new versions, tools and utilities, and specialized use for museum departments. • Load and update workstations with software standards. • Assist users with software configuration questions. • Assist users in recovering corrupted or damaged files. Network • Connect work stations to the network. • Ensure servers are running optimally and perform regular maintenance. • Perform administrator functions for servers and network. Training • Assist users with training on operating systems, standard applications and use of the network. • Show individual end users the most effective use of the applications for their needs. Documentation • Log system changes, daily work, assist in keeping all IT documentation and inventory current. General • Perform backup procedures for all file servers and workstations. • Maintain vendor contacts for repairs and new purchases. • Keep work environment/computer room and storage areas organized, safe and updated. • Order and purchase computer supplies and equipment; maintain vendor contacts for repairs and new purchases. • Must stay current with technology and act as a proponent of updates/changes when usable and appropriate. • Additional duties as needed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor’s degree in computer science • 1 year successful work experience in a business setting, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. • Extensive knowledge of Wintel and Apple hardware. • Extensive knowledge of peripheral equipment (printers). • Extensive knowledge of PC and Macintosh Operating Systems. • Working knowledge of network protocols. • Hands-on knowledge of network hardware. • Excellent troubleshooting skills and methodology. • High level of interpersonal skills. • Good ability to think logically combined with creativity to solve unusual array of questions and problems. • Organized, energetic, positive, work effectively under pressure, and manage multiple tasks • Ability to lift 50 lbs. • Ability to maintain confidentiality within and outside the museum.
