Research and Evaluation Assistant
This position is responsible for assisting with visitor research as part of an exhibit-based project. Funded by the National Science Foundation, this project will create and test different exhibits and exhibit groupings. The project targets family groups with children 8-12. Responsibilities of the position include: coding video data using a complex, rigorous coding scheme, tracking progress in FileMaker, and actively suggesting improvements to the coding schemes being developed. The positions report to the Director of Visitor Research and Evaluation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Conduct multiple viewings of approximately 70 hours of video data of visitors. * Code video data according to complex coding schemes developed by senior research staff. * Assist in the refinement of the coding scheme, noting problems and suggesting improvements. * Input data into spreadsheets and other electronic documents. * Other duties as assigned MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor’s degree * Excellent listening and communication skills * Accurate, rigorous, and detail-oriented * Interest in and/or experience with evaluation or research process * Ability to take and follow direction from senior evaluation staff * Familiarity with FileMaker, Excel, and Word preferred * Familiarity with Studio Code or other video editing software (iMovie, Final Cut Pro, etc.) a plus * Interest in and/or experience with holistic scoring and/or information science a plus * Ability to perform general office tasks including using a computer terminal and office equipment, move from place to place, lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
