Program Director, Social Sciences

The Lab Division leads the Research and Development efforts for the Exploratoriums museum floor. This position reports to the Lab Associate Executive Director and works closely with the Exploratoriums staff of professional scientists, science educators, exhibit developers and visitor researchers.

Program Innovation
Ensure the integration of social science disciplines into overall public programmatic activity.
Oversee the planning and development of new social science-based exhibitions and programs, including project initiation, content review, grant writing, and project evaluation.
Coordinate with the Exploratoriums Development Department to facilitate proposal development and fundraising efforts for Lab projects and programs.
Direct the activity of specific project teams and oversee project budgets.

Act as a representative of the Exploratorium to outside agencies, individuals, and the museum community, representing the vision, goals, and activities of the Exploratoriums social science pedagogy and projects.
Develop and maintain relationships with social scientists who may serve as partners, advisors or expert users for social science exhibitions and programs.
Publish and disseminate informal education strategies related to social science.
Effectively teach social science content to a variety of audiences, including the general public, teachers, and museum professionals.

Support and Consultation
Provide social science content support and advice to programs, departments and individual staff within the museum.
Ensure coordination with other Divisions, including Museum Experience, Exhibit and Media Studios, and Global Studios, as necessary for programs and individual projects.

Ph.D. in social science required, with a degree in psychology, social psychology, behavioral economics, or related field preferred.
Minimum of 5 years experience in science education, teaching, teacher professional development, or equivalent.
Demonstrated publication record in science, science education, or equivalent.
Demonstrated record of success in project management including superior organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Excellent listening, learning, teamwork, and communication skills.
Successful track record in grant development, grant reporting, and budget oversight.
Excellent public speaking skills.
Ability and willingness to travel nationally and internationally to attend meetings, run workshops, and present at conferences.
Ability and willingness to work on weekends, when required.
